Oddbean new post about login | logout was reflecting on when i fell off the habit of opening nostr everyday and it was when i changed the sorting algo on primal to “trending 24hr” at the time i was traveling with limited time and thought it would help see the important notes at a glance but i think what actually happened was that nostr became more like an impersonal news site to me (akin to hacker news) and less of a social app that i spend time with ppl everyday changed the algo back to chronological notes from ppl i follow. we’ll see if this does the trick!
Chronological ftw Algo feeds are very useful, but the default being chronological is the best Anyways, nice to see you back here, hong!!
Why is there a need to open Nostr every day anyways?
i like the ppl here and would like to keep in touch with them and a light way to keep in touch is flowing their public thoughts
Makes sense. That was the original point of social media after all. Only works with following at max 200 people in my experience (and only if they are truly authentic people and not influencers soamming posts every minute). Beyond that, the timeline gets too big to read and there is a risk to develop an addiction whereby one constantly checks back to see if there are new posts. With 200 normal people, I usually find that one can read everything in about one hour per day.
yeah agreed on all of this. need be okay with missing the popular thing for the sanity and authenticity
I don’t need a news site. I need a community of friends to share the wins & losses with Chronological therefore is much better as you literally curate your own feed Then comes the truthbomb: you become your thoughts… curate wisely!
