The heads are releasing chemicals that would break down the insects that should be in there. This will damage the plant at the same time it is being denied access to the nutrients it needs. It csn deal with some empty closures, but it looks like every single head is closed in the picture.

So yeah, your kid probsbly just killed the plant. If it survives or if you get another one, either keep it away from that child or teach them why they can't play with the plants.
