I love your attitude. i'm not as footloose and fancy free, living abroad as you are. Although I have that goal eventually. 

Participating in an election in my jurisdiction seems like a step in the right direction, although going to church might be a better step to participating in local community  

 yeah, if those are your two preferred options forget the voting and join the church

bigger mainstream churches are better, catholic, anglican, presbyterian, baptist... the other, smaller ones are loony, often cultish 

 Not everyone is a cypher punk and can work on Bitcoin, lightning, Nostr, and antigravity so we are stuck with pulling a lever 

 what other options are there? 

 make a business? depends on how socialist and greedy the government is whether that's good or a struggle

it's not for nothing that merchants and travel are connected... governments will try to get their fangs into you if you stick around too long 

 i might just merchant myself around on a sailboat. that's the dream. if i wasn't so scared of being too lazy to scrape off the barnacles and look at a map.
