These IP wars require leverage and the West has given manufacturing leverage to China. The pain of industrial decoupling is greater than pain of losing the smart telescope market. There are no good solutions for companies, only nations can fight these [trade] wars. Even in that scenario France is more likely to go nuclear over Hermes, Cartier, LVHM, etc. than a telescope company. A more recent American example is DJI eating 3D Robotics's lunch. We have banned DJI in military and government, due to security concerns, but this doesn't stop their dominance in the civilian market.
