This is a sea urchin and I have an interesting story with it:
My diving partner and I have an interesting tradition: whenever we go camping, we don't take food, just water. We only carry two speargun and depend on them to hunt what we are going to eat at sea.
At the beginning of this year, we went diving and, to our surprise, there were no fish. We dived all day, but found no fish fit to eat; they were either poisonous or very small.
At the end of the day, we were exhausted and hungry, when we finally found a place full of sea urchins. With no other option, we had to collect some sea urchins to survive that day.
We seasoned it with soy sauce and ate several. I was very scared of getting sick, but, to my happiness, I ended up okay. 🤣

What did the sea urchin taste like?
The taste is like the sea, I don't know how to explain it exactly, but it's very light. It's very easy to season, just add soy sauce and salt!
I think the closest taste is raw oyster
..you can choke down oysters? Its actually one of the two foods I can't choke down. The other being grits.
Yes, I have no problem eating oysters, as long as they are very fresh
You are something else, man. Brave
Sea Urchin is a delicacy, often referred to as Uni. Don't order it at cheap sushi restaurant though because if it isn't fresh it tastes like a mix between old dumpster and dead fish.
Let’s be real, no sushi in majority of Canada is fresh unless you’re coastal. I’m in Ontario and sushi here makes me want to weep. 😂
I totally agree, they decompose very quickly. The fresh harvested taste is mild, tastes like the sea and is a bit like oysters
