A Santa Rosa couple and their dog survived the October 2017 "Tubbs" wildfire (with permanent injuries) by jumping in their pool. The only open exit from their HOA was blocked by neighbors also trying to escape. There was another exit, however, it was gated by the neighboring HOA because those people didn't want the extra traffic on their streets. Why didn't the escaping people break down the gate that night? Maybe because they didn't know obedience is optional.
