Don't overlook the little things—spending a few moments with a friend, getting in a quick workout, choosing the healthier food, taking a day off, saving a little money. It may seem like nothing to skip over it in that moment, but our daily decisions are like a ship's captain making little tiny course corrections. Veering slightly left or right in the moment may not make much difference, as we tell ourselves we can easily correct it by veering right back the other way. But given enough time, the captain who veered his ship a little to off course will find himself far from his desired direction.
We are the captain of the vessels of our lives, and it is in these small and seemingly insignificant decisions throughout each day that we form habits. Habits that begin today determine who we will be and how we will live months and years from now. There are many things beyond our control, but the habits we form and future we build start in the little moments we have today.
