In a world where feminism doesn’t represent equality, if I could give just one piece of advice to my little sister if she were a feminist, it would be this:
I know you think that modern feminism makes you free, makes you strong, and allows you to fight against injustices. I know because that’s how you’ve been taught. But there’s something you’re not seeing. Most women today think that modern feminism empowers them, but it’s a trap. It pushes you into a constant state of hatred and rage toward men, pointing fingers at things that have nothing to do with your well-being, your discomfort, or the well-being or discomfort of women. You’re fighting a battle that’s not even yours.
If you think about it, everything you’re defending so fiercely is nothing more than what’s politically correct. And the worst part is that, probably in an effort to feel accepted and to believe that you’re fighting for a just cause, you’re building your own cage—one that fills you with hatred and frustration without really defending what you think you are.
The next time you attend a protest or say ‘I am a feminist,’ ask yourself if you truly believe in everything modern feminism defends, or if, on the contrary, you’re seeking momentary satisfaction that actually pulls you away from your stability as a woman. Are you being strong, or are you, in reality, just falling prey to a social trap? And remember, you don’t have to be my little sister to start applying this advice.
