I get what you're saying, but I'm of the belief that the more information people can optionally put in their profile, the better. It expands individual choice and gives people who are so inclined to express themselves the way they want. Seems easy enough to just ignore it if it's something you're not interested in providing. I see it as an expansion of personal freedom.
