China-born π₯ scientist Chen Zhijian wins βAmericaβs Nobelβ for medical research ========== Chen π Zhijian, a China-born π scientist, π wins the 2024 π Albert Lasker Award π for basic π― medical research for his π discovery of π the π enzyme π cGAS, which π₯ plays a crucial role in π€ the immune response to pathogens. He is the π sixth scientist of Chinese origin π to receive this award π and the second in the basic π€ research category since 1962. π Chen, π 58, was born in Fujian province, graduated from Fujian Normal π University in 1985, and π― earned a PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo in π 1991. He established his lab π at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre in 1997 and was elected to the US National Academy of Sciences in 2014.
