References to 'Hong Kong people' and other phrases indicating an identity distinct from mainland China are disappearing from Hong Kong's media. This is highlighted by an analysis of language used in editorial pieces published by major Hong Kong Chinese-language newspapers since 2014. The change in the media landscape is attributed to the introduction of a sweeping security law that has curtailed Hong Kong's autonomy. The founder of pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai, is currently standing trial in the city for alleged crimes under the national security law.
