I'm not a #NixOS user. I've never installed it. I've only seen discussion about it on Reddit. I'm vaguely familiar with its intended audience and purpose. But this purge is wild. I mean, you can't separate politics from software. Software is inherently political strictly because the developer who is writing it has political opinions which will inevitably make it into their project. it's why i'm saying, nostr is an attractor, that is going to be a focal point for the refugees of the war on actual science in this case computer science, going on in the world at large right now we are already the hard core of gfy salty bastids and we already have several notable salty bastids here, and razor sharp wits and analysists, jack, lyn, unclebob, and i can almost guarantee you that we are gonna get more of the heavy hitters coming here as they continue to poison the well

There are thousands of people who work on nixos, a few activists banning people from discussion forums doesn’t mean anything. if they start banning people from nixpkgs, that would be more concerning, but I don’t think it has come to that.

Well, this is why i like the whole suckless ecosystem... The slightly hostile, slightly sociopathic but overall anarchistic climate around it tend to scare away the demographic who wants to push for such actions. I am pretty sure over the next years we will see the fall of much more open source projects as identity politics kreep ever more into them. The most infuriating thing is, how superfluous this all is... "On the internet, nobody knows you are a dog" With bringing this topic into the internet they are destroying the ultimate safespace that it once was.

FOSS can resist this in a way other organisations cannot. Fork the code. Leave the haters in their own bubble and move the consensus fork forward. (You lose branding and potentially infrastructure, though)

Sure, all things are 'political', by the simple fact that humans have interests. But the specific 'politics' here are relevant. This particular group of people happen to be totalitarian (i.e. that it applies to all things/domains all the time). This is due to the fact that they believe a bunch of things to be 'social constructions', and for them that implies that subsequently means things can actively be constructed in whatever way you deem preverable. The means by which they do so, is by 'chanting' things into reality. The logic is that if everyone chants the spelll (often and loud enough), it will become 'real'. That also means that any dissonance is undermining the manifestation of this 'reality', requiring repression: Everyone has to go allong with all the things all the time in every domain, otherwise things fall appart. So its their politics that is causing this, not the platitude that everything ultimately is political; for in many things/domains the political element is extremely marginal in the perspective of most political positions. But for them, its always central, and will always be very motivated to put it central. Simply avoiding, disassociating and moving away whenever they throw their political trans turd into the punch bowl does not work: because your silence is voilence and they will haunt you to the ends of the earth to force/pressure you to capitulate; they can not tollerate even potential dissonance, you actively need to join the chant. By trying to move away, they will simply keep destroying capital (in the form of communities, projects, social mores etc.), but also vulnerable individuals in unstable mental and social positions that they actively seek to convert. They can not be ignored because they wont let themselves be ignored. The only option is to repress these freaks back into the margins where their broken twisted minds belong such that normal non totalitarian people can have peace.
