Some of this is the same in Chinese. Names would sound similar. Months days the same. Might ask what your Chinese zodiac as a nice way of asking age. 

Politeness would be way scaled back though. It's way more direct usually. 

I guess the polite levels is a language feature pretty unique to Japanese.
