U.S. Extends National Emergency on Hostage-Taking Abroad

Biden Jr. on July 16, 2024. The extension is necessary due to the ongoing threat posed by terrorist organizations, criminal groups, and foreign states engaging in hostage-taking and wrongful detention. The national emergency was declared under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and is aimed at protecting the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.
