 You're only now realizing this @becec1de? Liberals consider themselves left-leaning while everyone else wants nothing to do with them.
 @Eòlach I am not talking about 'liberals' in the American or non-American understanding of the word.
 Then who else do you know that considers themselves 'left-wing' while scarcely resembling anything like it?
 @Eòlach I am basically talking about a number of 'left-wing' accounts that are proclaiming to be anything from communist to marxist to orthodox marxist to whatever. This is an observation I started to make when I was researching far-right social media accounts, predominantly in the Greek social media context
 @getimiskon :OwOid: :blobcatgooglytrash: you're up. As for claiming to be a Marxist, communist, socialist, etc, and not applying that philosophy in practice. You'll have probably reached the same conclusion I have that they either hold these beliefs but don't actively practice them or are simply larping.

I consider myself to be a left-leaning libertarian, but I don't actively involve myself in politics under the belief that it is just one big farce. Politics in various countries are puppeteered by special interest groups that hold a disproportionate amount of influence over discourse than the public has and thus those in power will always seek to appease these groups to retain their position. In America especially it is all pretty damn corrupt from nepotism which is why the 2016 election became a matter of voting for the lesser of two evils rather than who the public think will do better by them.

I don't really blame far-left larpers for not bothering to put their politics into practice because they'll end up getting stopped at every turn. Especially if they're trying to bring in a political system that goes against the interests of those aforementioned groups currently influencing the direction of global politics.
 @Eòlach @becec1de

Once you understand “hold the purse strings” you will understand “left wing” politics and liberals.
 You're not wrong, it's no secret that the SNP has been embezzling the funds they've received from their party and taxes. Politics tends to be less about the philosophy and principles of ruling and more so a matter of who has control over the treasury and lawmaking at any given moment.

Even then, the SNP still answers to those very same special interest group(s) who decide whether they remain in power or not to the public's dismay.
 @Eòlach

It certainly seems like all their posturing is just window dressing. I get rather upset over how anti-worker the worker’s party seems to be, sadly champagne socialists have more money, so more say in how things go; weaponized against their namesake.
 You won't ever catch a middle or upper-class person claiming to be a socialist. Champagne liberals, certainly. They're liberal up until the moment it suits them. You'll see a lot of that in America where those in their gated communities actively welcome illegal immigration as '*sanctuary states*' up until the moment when those same illegal immigrants begin becoming a nuisance for them. Until that point, they're out of sight and out of mind becoming the problem of the working or lower class to deal with.

The same concept applies over here with the majority of illegal immigrants coming from France who have previously applied for asylum but were rejected because of their criminal past or association with known terrorist groups. Public sentiment quickly swung in the other direction after we found out what the government was doing with our taxes and the subsequent impact these criminals have had on our society.
