Relays are essentially a public notepad file that anyone can write to. Relay admins have nothing to protect themselves with and CLients are forced to do all the work while relays get spammed forever

Ditto is the only relay with built-in protection measures. Stirfry has nothing built-in and you have to manually add the filters. Relay admins are not being proactive in fighting it We need better Relay tools. Spammers invading Nostr is not new as well as CSAM posters. Admins are lazy with CSAM too

As far as I can tell the only reason they have been filterable at all was they did the courtesy of making the friendly username able to be greppable easily, and nothing stops them from randomizing that and flooding the network in the future.

I’ve been dealing with him all day. The problem is that you only notice the ReplyGuy (who is fairly harmless), while he has a bot partner that writes random texts in different languages, and then ReplyGuy responds to him. Without increasing the load on the server, it's not that easy to block.

This second bot writes nonsense, almost like a Japanese person. If its texts didn’t repeat and if it only wrote in Japanese, it would be absolutely indistinguishable from a typical Japanese user on Nostr. Something like: ウンチしたけど、風が涙を運んでくれた。妹に負けた。 Did a bot or a Japanese person write this? I wouldn’t be able to tell 😑 It’s really hard to deal with this.

Then I hit block on some junk npub in 0xChat and now we're working again. This is reproducible. Reporting a user as spam from their profile in Amethyst generates a reporting and a mute event. Approving both in Amber breaks the mute functionality in Amethyst. (You mentioned possible corrupted encryption once before) After this, block/mute, spammers, and muted words are blank in Amethyst security filters and nothing can be added. Blocking from another app, 0xChat in this case, gets all of it working again in Amethyst. Something gets straightened out. I never get spam. Also i dont quite understand the relay thing yet so maybe im just not on the ones that are riddled with it. Seems fine to me. Like people say. Nostr doesnt coddle you with a algorithm. You click you comment you find. No auto feeder

you could do that to raise the cost of an account. You could also have make relays that require vouching. has anyone made a NIP for vouching for another user? Other than just looking at who you follow.

web of trust kind of sucks but just a wide open wild west network like this is going to be vulnerable to spam. Like where is the technical cost against spam? If there isn't one then there will be tons of spam.
