My dad was in charge of a military operation whose motto was, "Do it right the first time." Somehow, a lot of my private sector employers have seen this as an alternative to, "Do it on time an within budget." That's because the real plan is, "Do it sooner than you can and cheaper than it costs, so I can have it now without paying you for it."

Later, of course, when it doesn't work and needs debugging, it's "Why didn't you do it that way in the first place?"

Telling them costs you.
